About

I'm an odd duck. My formal training is in computational neuroscience & clinical research, specifically around signal and image analysis, using machine learning for real-time classification and pattern recognition. Besides my research, much of my energy for the past several years has been focused on networks, public cloud infrastructure, and applied encryption. I co-founded the Open Crypto Audit Project and spend a lot of time thinking about usable, modern security software from a systems perspective. My work on network security and forensics and been cited by media including the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, CNN, Forbes, Reuters, Wired, the Economist, and Nature. I've served as a technical reviewer for the Software Engineering Institute, and publish and speak frequently on computational modeling, security engineering, and trust.
